KZ440 rear brake pedal return spring
05 May 2022 15:04 - 05 May 2022 15:10
I'm missing the return spring, which doesn't pose as much of a problem as where the spring goes...I see the pin where I'm pretty sure the spring goes on the brake pedal but I cannot figure out where the other attachment point is. Service manual does not show this either. Found an old post here but pics don't show anymore.
EDIT: disregard...think I found it from a blown up shot of the service manual

In the diagrams at Partzilla for the 440 Ltd I'm seeing a pin on the RH muffler. The spring appears to be kind of long & the orientation in the drawing seems to indicate that the spring could attache there. kind of a weird place to attach a spring.

It does hook to the pin on the muffler mounting bracket.

Part hunting school 101.
1) First, go to Partzilla.com, or similar, and get the PN. If the part is stocked there, you can order, or go to step two.
2) Search eBay for your newly discovered PN. Also, search by key word terms. Parzilla will tell you what other bikes use the same part, so sometimes you have to search a different model bike, looking for your part. For example, the ZN1300 and 400/440 both use the same spring.
For example: search the following...
- kz400 spring
- kz440 spring
-zn1300 spring

I searched the part number for the 440A Ltd (43005-029) & there are several listed on EB at reasonable cost. around $10T or less.
