Per Zedder.com Z1A frame numbers start at 20001. Yes it appears to be a ‘74.
Incorrect registration seams to be a common theme. If the bike was built in June through December in 1973, technically it’s a 1974. But seams dmv sees the “73” and miss registeres them
Does it have an engine? Is the serial number within a couple hundred of the frame?

Look at the headstock to see if there is a white sticker. It will have the month and year the bike was built. I suspect due to the number it will be July/73, the first production month for the Z1A.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Yes, that falls in the 1974 range.
Engine numbers are here, too.

Could not get a good look at engine numbers dark building , engine painted black and bike was jammed in amongst other stuff. Typical period correct mods, LTD seat, 16" rear wheel, chrome LTD chain guard, chrome gauge covers etc. Not original paint but complete bike. Once I find out what he'll take for it I'll get more details. Either way it needs restoring.

Unfortunately this is not going to work out, he's looking for 6500 which is too much IMO in this condition.

If the engine is original to the frame, that’s a steal.

$15k to $20k for a restoration plus $6,500 purchase price. It's a very low number Z1A...probably has many Z1 parts left over from the Z1 model year. I would probably do that deal.

Haven't been following prices lately, didn't realize a bike in this condition could be worth this much.

The way I look at it is if you are doing a complete restoration then the price of the bike is small compared to what you will spend on restoring everything. A few years ago I bought a sad looking Z1B for $1,500 and put about $20,000 into it. I now know the best way to make a million restoring bikes is to start with two million.

07 Nov 2021 10:53 - 07 Nov 2021 11:02We wouldn’t do it but for the respect and admiration of these machines. $20K is a full nut and bolt restoration. Id be all over that low serial number Z1A if I had the cash.
