Anyone with a Z1r sandcast headlight bracket that can help.

I’m going to try and recreate in lazar cut a version of the sandcast original headlight bracket. If anyone has access to one that could scribe me a few measurements it would help a lot below is a digital drawing with some of the measurements needed, as always any help is thanked in advance! 

I should be able to help you out, but I need to dig around in some boxes for the part.

Are those the only dimensions your need? Are you just going to reproduce those two holes?  Do you need any details about the difference between the left and right?

Thank you DOHC! to start with i was going to just model the basic part in 3d and then add the differences, i didnt want to push my luck and ask for too much all at once..It will be cut from 5mm mild steel with the aim to keep the weight to a minimum and weld to a 46mm sleeve, i would gladly cut a spare set and send them to you for your help.

Hi KZ, I'd like a set of those too mate, if possible. I'm using 45mm forks, so I'll have to think about how to mount them ....  Could they be made from Aluminium ?

I’m sure they could, I’m only using mild steel cause I have tube stock got in 46mm id  for  the forks and I can weld up the parts my self then powder coat. I’ll be making a generic set for my Z1000 A2 also..to go on 46mm forks. I can send you the file even if you want.
 

I know a guy that  makes aluminium parts for the aerospace industry, i'll have a chat to him, this sort of stuff would be pretty basic for him I'd imagine...

I found one of my brackets.  It's a left side, but it seems like the dimensions you're asking for should be the same on both sides.  It turns out it's actually pretty hard to get accurate dimensions from this specific piece with just a set of calipers.  I did my best.

I measured from the outside surface of the tube that covers the fork tube.  I did my best to eyeball the center of the hole, and to make sure my measurement was at right angle to the fork tube.

 

Any interest in this one?  It was in my pile of things to get rid of. 

 

Ah DOHC you are a gentleman and thank you for the offer! I think with these measurements i can figure the rest and  ill draw it on in 1:1 and print out the piece in the same. I may need the dimensions of the top part of the bracket (the turn signal part) but these things are getting rare so either evilbay it or keep it safe as another member would kill for this one day. My Z1r ( like all my bikes) is going to be pieced together from frame up and forks will be the showa forks from a cbr900rr so the bracket would not fit.
750R1 ill draw it out and i can have the pieces cut out and i can send them on no problems in either alum or steel, ill stick them in a padded envelope and fire them your way.

This is kinda what I’m aiming for and I do it properly, when I have more measurements and I’m not drawing it in 15 min drinking my coffee before I go to work..But you get the idea.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me the function of the highlighted areas, seeing I’m going to be using handlebar brake and clutch are they used for the cowl mounting in any way? Thanks in advance

The three threaded holes on the left side (you circled two) are where the front master cylinder reservoir mounts.  The two threaded holes on the right side are for mounting the self-canceling turn signal control box.  The curved slot is for the aiming the headlight up-down.  The headlight bucket on the Z1R has a little arm that lines up with that slot.

One other thought I had.  Are you going to use a Z1R style bracket to mount the gauges?  Or are they just going to be mounted to the top clamp?  I ask because the hole in your drawing that reaches way out from the fork leg is used to mount the gauge bracket.  If you're not using a similar bracket, you may not need that hole.  That hole doesn't have anything to do with the fairing mounts.

I can take pictures of my bike if you need to see how anything fits together.  I labeled the mount points...

Once agin DOHC  thank you, I’m going to have to live without the headlight adjustment and won’t need the signal cancellation or master cylinder. As for the gauges I am hunting actual Z1r ones as I’m going to try and reproduce the cockpit as close as I can and any info on that would be a godsend mate.
