Exactly! I see so many images of KZ bikes that have the clamps installed wrong even though the Kawasaki Service Manual and the Kawasaki Owners Manual are VERY clear about how to install the clamps. I guess folks either don't bother reading the manuals or somehow don't believe the manuals are correct? EdThe arrows on the bottom of the fork clamps go forward. The front nut is also tightened/torqued before the rear nut.

Just finished 1974 z1a don't remember seeing them thanks for the info have to get a newer manual Z1 lowers did not have arrows. Started on76 KZ900’s.

the manual states there is a front and a back, only determined once clamped down. If it’s on backwards the gap to the rear will be a wedge shape. If it’s installed correctly the rear gap will show both surfaces parallel. But there is nothing about an arrow.

To build on Mikaw's illustration, the flats on the clamp that meet the fork legs are two slightly different heights, or planes. The taller side goes in front. If you place a clamp on a flat surface with the flats facing down the difference in heights can be easily seen.
