I am working on my sons KZ650 F2, aussie model, it has the early style tank. Is the rear rubber mount the only thing that hold the rear of the tank ? There are 2 M6 bolts in a bracket just below the rear tank rubber, they sit horizontally across the frame in front of the battery, what are these for ? Is there another part to the rear mount i'm missing .

I'm not that familiar w the 70s 650s, but the bolts could be for the airbox baffle plate.

On my 1977 KZ650-C1 the are two rubber mounts near the front of the frame that the tank slides into and there is a single rubber mount near the rear that a tang on the tank slips into. Those are the only 3 points that hold the tank of the frame. There are two holes that the air box baffle is mounted to (see image below), but they aren't related to holding the tank in place. Ed

Thanks for the replies.. Ed, what are the two clear lines going into the airbox ? And what exactly does that baffle plate do ?

Those 2 clear hoses are the vent hoses that attach to the carbs. That baffle plate came as a stock piece on the bike. I believe it is there to help direct the air flow into the top of the carb air filter, but that's just a guess. Ed

Since Kawasaki lists it as a baffle plate, my guess is that it probably restricts the flow of air over the top of the air cleaner cap. There probably would be a lot of air turbulence without the plate. but that's just my guess. hee.

I said restricts, but it probably deflects the air or something like that.
