Whoever installed this K&G luggage rack on my 1980 KZ1000 LTD didn't do it correctly - only one bolt holding it on each side. Can someone provide some photos showing the CORRECT way this should be mounted? I want to put a trunk and hard saddlebags on eventually and need the luggage rack to be mounted securely.

Do you have the sliding shock mount arms? The arms are adjustable forward & back and are locked in place by set screws on the underside. You can see where the set screws should be in your pics near the shocks. For the rear mounts I got a set of K&G brackets for a KZ440 >> looking at them on edge they're kind of Z-shaped. Originally, I just used galvanized flat bar & long bolts from the hardware store. Use the frame grip bolt holes for for the rear mounts.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHere's a luggage rack I sold to someone here on KZR who also had a 1000. It has different shock mount arms than mine. I don't know if the arms are a better fit for a 1000. The EB mounting kit linked below is similar to the 440 kit I got. similar arms, similar offset brackets.

Mounting kit. there is a variety of kits.

Thanks! Can you give me a close-up of what that shock mount arm should look like? There was a tub with some miscellaneous parts and such in it that came along with the bike; wondering if it might be in there.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI used the arms from the 440 kit in the photo & they're about the same as the ones in the EB link. They're pretty simple. just slide them in & snug up the set screws. with the arms in place, it should be pretty obvious how to install the rack. Also, in case you aren't aware, the big phillips head screws on top of the rack are for the width adjustment.

The first rack I bought was listed for a KZ550 & had the brackets like the chrome ones below, but I couldn't use them.
