KZ650 Model Identification was created by Huntmaster
I have a Lincoln built KZ650 B3 (frame KZ650B-525130) but my title document has it as a 1999 model year rather than 1979. The DMV are prepared to correct the error on "proof" of it being a 79 B3. They talk of a "letter from Kawasaki or at least a Kawasaki dealer " being acceptable. Well good luck on having Lincoln do that for a 41 year old bike. Any

one with an "authoritative" document I can use? gd4now seems to be onto things. Please no Japanese sources - their numbers are a different series to the US. No I don't live in the US so having the DMV change nomenclature is not an issue - you just need "proof".

You can put the vin into kawasaki's website and it will pull up year and model. Not sure if that's official enough for them.

The back cover of the factory service manual also has that information.

Do you not have a local dealer willing to write a letter for you?

1981 KZ1000 LTD awaiting resurrection
2000 ZRX1100 not ridden enough

Do not know that this will help you with the title issue but to add more to this conversation here are the numbers I could find and make sense of. I am not claiming this is 100% correct, rather it was what I could find and make sense of.

Thank you. Problem is the wording on your image excludes the US model where the frame number starts with a 5 not a 0. My genuine service manual has similar wording (now that I have flipped the book over) but has wording that is ambiguous so I am going to give it a go. You never know your luck.

Thanks. Now that I've flipped the manual over I see what you mean. It might work so I will give it a go. The KZ was never imported into my country, only the Japanese manufactured Z version so the Kawasaki dealer network here will only have access to info on that series. Nonetheless with the info you give I will see if I can get my tame dealer to do the letter.

Thank you gd4now. It is from an earlier post of yours that that I found my KZ to be a B3. The title shows it as a B2 but there is no question that it is a B3. I have no clue how it got titled as a B2 let alone a 1999 model. It should be an easy task to correct the error but I have run into one of "those" officials whose life is dedicated to screwing customers around. I met a California policeman once who came from the same school of thought.

Thats a useful list. I have a Lincoln built bike that was imported into the UK in 93. The frame type is B2 with the single bolt front footrests and the triangular master cylinder but the frame number is 524775 putting it into the B3 category according to your list and engine numberĀ 102944 the same. Just wondering what your source for the B3 engine & frame numbers are? I guess that maybe some of the B3's could have been made with B2 frames if they were Lincoln built?
