76 KZ900 630-530 chain sprocket conversion was created by mrmach5
New project bike. 76 KZ 900 . Lots to do ,but at some point will be replacing the chain and sprockets. To move to a 530 set up, what 530 sprocket sizes would give me similar final drive ration to the 15-35 630 set up. Also how many chain links on the 530?

15/35 is 2.33 ratio so you want to be close to that.
530 pitch runs smaller diameter sprockets for the same tooth count so you want to go for more teeth front and rear to keep the same chain to swingarm clearance .
18 front - 42 rear is ideal.

Chain pitch for 520, 525, and 530 chains is .625 inch_________ Chain pitch for a 630 chain is .750 inch
THe advantages are many, and there are really no disadvantages to going with 530.
The chains are slightly lighter (about 1lb of revolving weight), so this equates to a small percentage increase in HP at the rear wheel.
The X-Ring chains last longer than 630 O-Ring chains. Based on comments for hundreds of customers, anything a few thousand miles better to double or more the normal life. The reason for this is the X-Ring versus the O-Ring. The conventional round O-Ring only has one sealing surface between the side plates. The X-Ring has two surfaces..
The 530 X-Ring chains are cheaper by about $10.00 than the 630 O-Ring chains..
530 chains are much more available. Try walking into a bike shop and finding 630 chain on the shelf... Probably less than 1 in 10 dealers will have any in stock..
You can get a variety of different 530 chains - including a mix of colors.

I guess when I did the re-build on my KZ-1000 if I would have known about the benefits of converting to a 530 chain I may have made the switch, but besides not knowing about it, I also wanted to keep the 630 chain for the originality of it. The previous owner had just installed a brand new front and rear sprocket so I replaced the chain to go with them. Much later I replaced the rear sprocket with less teeth. The HP loss with the 530 doesn't bother me much as I'll never worry about 1 or 2 HP and the bike is just a local chase around machine. If I ever rebuild another KZ and it needs a chain and or gears I will probably try the 530 size, but for now I am happy with the 630.

According to the OEM parts fish on Partzilla your bike used a 92 link 630 chain.
630 = 6/8 pitch (.75 or 3/4") and 3/8 wide roller
So 92 links x .75 = 69" long for the chain.
530 = 5/8 (.625") .pitch and 3/8" wide rollers
69" long chain divided by .625 = 110.4 links. 110 should work fine.

I'll be going with the 530 conversion with a 18F sprocket and 43R sprocket.
Is there a spacer that needs to go behind the front sprocket ,,,,,,,,,I see these listed - sprocket spacer 25mm x 36mm x 1.5mm ?
