Does anyone have experience in finding a replacement master cylinder for our ltd.

The original was destroyed by previous owner.

Is there a good example from another bike?

Thanks.

You could try either of the following. Generally you want to look for a master from a single-disk system, but I found the second one below grabs too much with a dual disk so it may be good for single disk on the 550 (notice it uses the same rebuild kit as the single-disk Ex500).

1994-2009
Ex500 Ninja 500 Twin
Single-Disk
43015-1479 Front Master Assy.
43020-1056 piston
49016-1044 boot
18-1012 All-Balls rebuild kit. Same as some Ex650 twin.

2009 - 2016 Ex650C9F-Ex650EGFL(Non-ABS)/Ex650FGFL(ABS)
Ex650 Ninja 650 Twin (ABS and Non-ABS) Marked as "14". 14mm ?
Dual-Disk
43015-0118 Front Master Assy. Diamond reservoir.
43020-0015 piston
49016-1044 boot
18-1012 All-Balls rebuild kit. Same as some Ex500 twin.
Even though this is a dual-disk, it's very grabby on a Kz550 dual-disk. It may work better on a Kz550 single-disk.

I installed a CBR500R Fr brake master cylinder. plus the Fr brake light wiring from a KZ1000P police.
The Honda master cylinder isn't level, but it isn't tilted as much as the stock unit was with the Euro bars.
I plan on installing superbike bars which should be flatter. The Honda m/c is for a single disk front brake.

The police brake light wire assy was installed, but not the police switch. same wire colors & same bullet terminals.

I'm not sure of your caliper piston size, but on my KZ440 the oem master cylinder was not ideal.
I needed 4 fingers to stop.
I used this chart to locate a better sized master cylinder.
www.vintagebrake.com/mastercylinder.htm
I pulled one from a 1993 KLR650 which is 1/2".
OEM KZ440 is 14mm. OEM Piston diameter 43mm
I can stop with 2 fingers now.

I was unable to find a rebuild kit for the front master cylinder on my 1981 KZ550A2. I emailed the sales department at BrakeCrafters and ended up mailing them my master cylinder so that they could create a kit for my bike. The 1981 550A rebuild kit is now on their site and they mailed my master cylinder back to be fully rebuilt. Not able to guarantee that they will do the same for anyone in the future, but if you are unable to find a rebuild kit for your bike then I suggest emailing sales@brakecrafters.com (I spoke with a guy named Mike) to see if they can create a kit for you.
