KZ550 frame swap compatability? was created by sumowilkie
hi all,
Iv got a Kz550A engine with a bent Kz550B frame. Not sure if both were original together? Only had bike 2 days.
Can i use any Kz550 frame or are there big differences between issues?
Any help on this would be appreciated before i buy on EB.
regards martin

Assuming it's a chain drive engine, you can probably use any KZ550 chain drive frame. KZ550A/B/C/D/H. and maybe a ZX550A or ZR550 frame, but I'm really not sure about the ZX/ZR. A shaft drive frame probably has some engine mounting differences & probably other differences regarding the final drive & swing arm.

The 550B had a 70s style frame with muffler stays built into the frame. The USA 550 models had bolted-on muffler stays found on most 1980-on models. see the 550-B2 & 550-C2 pics in the manual I mentioned in your other topic. There are probably other minor frame differences that are probably inconsequential to an engine swap.

Since the 550B wasn't sold in the USA, you're probably going to have to figure out some stuff for yourself.
Look at what you've got & compare it to the diagrams at partzilla using a similar model & EB pics.
