KZ650B front sprocket was created by BCKZ
Just replacing sprockets & chain on KZ650B 1978. The front sprocket coming off has a hole drilled for the tab washer to fit into, the new front sprocket has no hole. Whats the usual fix? I've tried drilling the new front sprocket to accept the washer but my drills ain't doing it.

Use a genuine Kawasaki sprocket - it has the hole. Ed

Could he switch to a splined washer that you're supposed to be bend over one side of the engine sprocket nut?

A few years ago this was talked over here loctite was one thing but that would worry me, ..... I thought of the splined washer then too Martin but since the sprocket is flush with the shaft the splines would not hook up.......... I ended up buying a Sunstar over Ebay with the hole so I could stop worrying about it.

use a splined washer, when you bolt it up its slightly offset to match with the bolt holes, the sprocket floats on the shaft but its no problem

He has a KZ650. The KZ650 countersprocket setup is different than the photo you posted. Below is a KZ650 countersprocket. Notice the end of the shaft is threaded with a nut on it. Ed

Use blue locktite on the nut. I never had one come off on any of the dozens of bikes I've owned and ridden. Don't overthink it.
