I'm wondering if I can run a 3.25 or 3.5" tire on a 1.60x18 rim??
Manufacture suggestion for the tire is 1.85-2.50. Think i can run it on my smaller width rim?
any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

You can get the tire on the rim, but the tire profile will be distorted which can cause odd wear and handling. The wider tire may also hit things like fender mounting bolts or even the fork tubes.

TexasKZ is correct! Running a wider tire on a narrow rim is a bad idea because it distorts the tire's profile which can (will) affect handling in a negative way. Guess how I know. Ed

is there a way to measure to see if there is enough clearance between the forks? I'm not running a fender on the front. Just asking before I entertain getting a wider rim.

Some,,maybe most, tire manufactures list the actual dimensions on their websites. I did say actual dimensions, because there can be a noticeable difference from the tire size. Said differently, if you had five tires marked 110/90-19 from five different manufactures, I would be surprised if any two of them had exactly the same measured width. There are also differences between different tire models from the same manufacturer.
For measuring the distance you have between the forks, just grab your favorite measuring device and check the narrowest point, and compare hat to the actual with of the tire you want to use.

Exactly! The image below shows this problem. The two tires are both Michelin front tires in size 100/90-19. One is a Michelin Macadam 50E and the other is a Michelin A48. Even though they both are marked the same size one is considerable wider that the other, and this was still true when the tires were mounted on the rim. Ed
