Can I shorten a chain? was created by BCScott
My non-O-ring EK chain needs to be replaced soon after only 16,000 km (10,000 miles). I'm looking at an EK 630 SRO Sport Series O-Ring Chain from an online retailer. The 92 link one, which is what my KZ1000A1 calls for, is C$167.00. The 96 link one is C$97.00. Can't I just buy the longer one and remove 4 links?

Yes, though those prices seem suspicious.

It's a very respected Canadian retailer, fortnine.ca/en/ek-630-sro-sport-series-o-ring-chain

The price for that 92 link chain is silly. See:

www.amazon.com/EK-Motor-Sport-630-Chain/...&s=automotive&sr=1-1

There probably are other sellers with even better pricing. Ed

That works out to C$147.50 , so it's not that far out of line. It's the US$50 (C$67.10) shipping that kills that one. So it's just a matter of pressing out the extra links, right?

Yes. I bought a 96 and took out 4. I've seen this before. Over charging.

Perfect! I was hoping that would be the case. I just bought it, 96 link for C$100.79 (US$75) delivered.
