Hey Caleator, quick question looking at the close up of the RH side of your bike -- the part that mounts on the axis that connects the rearset lever to the master cylinder - it has a piece that juts off at an odd angle along the bottom - is there where the return spring mounts? Didn't see a spring in your photo.

Thanks again.

Yeah, it has a hole in it. and it is a VERY weird angle, and honestly poor design choice. it limits the angles you can set the brake lever.

You have to stretch the spring a fair amount to get it to fit. I somehow got it on the first try.

I suggest bleeding your brake before putting it on, in case finding a good angle for the brake lever is difficult.

I didn't have the spring on or the passenger pegs on in the pictures, but I do now

I know this is kind of an old post now but- Thanks for the write up, Caleator! I never did get around to installing rear sets on my gpz. Glad the whole model number thing got figured out and now that info lives on the web. Not sure why I can't see your attached pics. Too old of a post maybe.

Here are the photos again, couldn't see them myself either. Must have been a server data purge or something.

I just purchased a set of these off FFTP, but for my '81 KZ750e. The website listed them fitting only an '80, but research proved the '81 was identical. I haven't gotten to the linkage yet as the bike is still being built. The rear brake linkage I can't use, as my rear cylinder was shot. As soon as I fab up a mount for the new MC, I have to design my own linkage. As for quality, these are very well made pieces. I was surprised there was no shift linkage parts in the kit. I will have to modify the stock shift lever to get that hooked up. Overall I am pleased with the quality, though. I got the knurled folding set. Not a post that helps the original thread much, but thought I would chime in with my experience with FFTP and Tarozzi.

I actually spoke to one of them about it, they said it's listed as 1980 because it's for euro models.

not quite sure the gpz550 was released in 1980 for the euro market or not. but it is what I was told.

The gpz was officially a 1981 model, but maybe some were available late in 1980?
