1978 kz650 lowering the rear

Hello everyone, Im very new to bikes in general, but i would like to give my kz more of a bobber look, but id rather not hardtail it, as michigan roads are unforgiving with potholes. i am a welder and willing to cut and fit. but would love to know if there is an option for shorter shocks or other aftermarket parts?

Shorter shocks will do it. You can get shocks in just about any length you want.

How much lower are you wanting to go & are you planning on lowering the front as well?
Kawasaki Vulcan 500 shocks should be a direct fit >> I think they're 11.5" eye-to-eye. certainly not more than 12.5".
Z1Enterprises.com lists several brands of shocks. Hagon. Progressive. Monza.
Harley-Davidson Sportster shocks are another option & they come in various lengths >> you might be able to find a good used set on EB. I think stock Sportys are 13.25" or 335mm. lowering shocks are probably 12.5" & huggers are about 11" to 11.5. The springs might touch or rub the chain guard, but others have said that's no big deal, especially w a plastic chain guard. The bushings have to be swapped. easy. I temporarily installed a stock set on my 81 KZ650-CSR to check the fit, but didn't do a test ride. doh.
