Head Tube Sticker is Wrong?!

Strangest thing.
I thought I had a 1981 KZ750 LTD....then I thought I had a KZ650H....then I confirmed it's actually 1981 KZ750 H2 LTD....

- Check the sticker on the head tube. It says KZ650H, JKAKZEH1
- Check registration papers. It says KZ750
- Check the stamped VIN JKAKZDH1XBA029466. Decodes at a KZ750
- Check engine stamp. It says KZ750EE055167.

So, the long and the short of it is, somehow the factory head tube sticker is wrong. It seems to be a 1981 KZ750H2 LTD.
Has anyone seen this before?!

Looks like some PO put an new (wrong) reproduction sticker on the head tube.
The stamped VIN is the right VIN

Also, take a look at the engine to see what it shows. Ed

That is strange. The VIN's do not appear to match. Which VIN is on the title? If that's the case, I can't imagine KHI mislabeling the bike, but stranger things have happened. :)

Some states make use of the engine number for ID and not the frame number.

From what you have posted your frame began as a 1981 KZ650 H1, but has had an engine from a KZ750 installed at some point.

Strange though, because the stamped VIN is a 750, so it's only the sticker that is wrong. It is also strange that the VIN's don't match on the sticker and stamp.

How long have you had the motorcycle & were you able to register it?
Kawasaki.com recognizes the 650 vin as a 1981 KZ650-H1 CSR, but it doesn't recognize the 750 vin.
Who knows what's going on with the vin discrepancy, but possibly something fishy.
You could check the vins at the police department or DMV to see if they have any info.
