I'm looking to change out the stock bars on my CSR to possibly a straight bar, something with less of an inward angle and with a upright sitting position.

any recommendations or advice?
do the stock cables need to be changed or cut down to accommodate the new bars?

I think I've decided on superbike bars... only issue I see would be the master cylendar but that has an issue right now so may need a replacement anyways.

From the pics your motorcycle is a 1982 KZ650-H2 CSR. My 81 model is virtually the same except for the carburetors.
I installed Emgo Euro bars from Z1Enterprises, but plan on going with superbike bars if I ever get around to swapping
the master cylinder >> I got one from a 2014 Honda CBR500R & the Fr brake light wire lead from a KZ1000P Police.
I also installed a shorter clutch cable & shorter upper brake line, but haven't done the throttle cables yet.
Before changing bars, I moved the turn signals to the headlight bucket. you may have to do the same w superbike bars.

1981 KZ650-CSR w Emgo European bars & KZ1000J mirrors.

The used mc in the pic is in very good condition >> I got it for about $30 on EB.
Partzilla has them new for $70 which isn't bad for a new oem mc.
From your pic you'll probably need to redo the entire front brake >> new brake lines, caliper rebuild, maybe a new caliper piston.
I installed Goodridge lines & fittings and K&L caliper rebuild parts from Z1Enterprises.

Yeah I suspect I would have to rebuild it all since it's been sitting for so long.

I was wondering about the signal mounting, got any links for that mod? I found these stems, www.z1enterprises.com/turn-signal-stem-70mm.html

Thanks again for all your help, much appreciated.

I installed similar turn signal stems that have the chrome diamond. www.z1enterprises.com/turn-signal-stem-75mm.html
The stems you linked w the plastic diamond should fit the same.

I used stock rear turn signal dampers, but for a cleaner look you might be able to remove the plastic diamond & use KZ400 dampers.
Another option is to get either KZ400 turn signal stems or Honda CB stems >> they're very similar to each other.
EB item numbers >> KZ400 = 271882376548 & Honda CB = 182428364699

note: the stock CSR Fr turn signal ground wires have tiny grounding rings, so I got 10mm ring terminals from the auto parts store.
I don't have a good closeup of the Fr turn signals. photo shows different handlebars than above pic.
