The drum frame has the hole for the rear brake pivot point that converts the brake pedal movement to the brake drum lever movement.
Rear disc frame doesn't have this, it has fixings for the rear brake master cylinder. Disc swingarm is also different.
So wouldn't be a straight swop.
Z1000 rear disc.
Z650 rear drum.

From the diagrams at Partzilla the 650B & SR have the same brake pedal, and from comparing their frames on EB, it looks like the brake pedal is attached in the same location. So if you get the 650B swing arm, torque link, brake pedal & brake rod, it might work. I'm assuming the swing arm will swap since they have they same pivot bolt.

Hi, hi-jacking this thread.....I have the same real disk brake arrangement on my 78 KZ-1000-A-2. My rear brake pedal is sticking so trying to narrow the cause I disconnected the brake pedal arm from the master cylinder rod. And the pivit point of the brake pedal arm is preventing the return spring from pulling the pedal up,
Shouldn’t it be free enough to pull the pedal, up and release the brake?
My problem is how does this come apart so I can clean the pivot arm? The nut is off , how does the spring release the pedal from the pivot point?
Help and thanks!

I'm not familiar with the KZ1000A or your disk brake pedal, but I would remove the brake pedal stop bolt & RH foot peg assy to see if that will relieve pressure on the spring & get some clearance. Also, for ease of removal I would saturate the brake pedal shaft with 3-in-1 oil or a penetrant to help loosen it. If the brake pedal has never been removed, then it could be kind of difficult to remove.

Photos of my rainy after noon project. Rear brake lever would not return and stop light was on so took the right foot peg off and nut holding the brake lever on its axle. Here is a long screw driver trying to pull back the return spring from the frame bracket.
Pulling the brake pedal off its axle, without the spring getting around the frame
Got it off look at the rust on the pivot rod and inside the pedal
sandpaper wrapped around a 1/2" piece of copper tubing cleans the inside of the brake pedal and wire wheel tackles the pivot rod itself
clean now
back together and I used this copper based never-seize.. Spring right back now.
. thanks for the help.
