KZ400 1980 custom Steering bearing research was created by FJR1
Hello Guys, I am looking to change my steering bearing on my kz400 custom 1980. Unfortunately I cannot find the reference number on the stock ball bearings.
The only measurements are the one taken on the frame. From whats is available from pyramidpart, they have bearing for the kz400 1974-79. which are 30x48x13mm, 30x48x14mm and 30x48x15mm.
I contacted pyramid part directly and according to their trade guide (Hi-Level) and bearings for Kawasaki KZ400 (G) Custom 1981, top and bottom bearings are both the same size 30x48x14mm, Comparing to my measuremtns of the stem, the 30x48mm inner and outer diameter is fine, it is just the depth which is my concern.
my measurements from the frame shows that the step at each end of the frame steering head, is approx 8.4 mm in depth for the top and 10mm for the bottom.
Could someone please confirm that they would fit? as I have a feeling that the bearing will stick out of the frame.
Thank you for your help in advance.

What specific KZ400 is this? I.e., what letter & number suffix does it have? Also, is this a Twin or 4-cyl.
Asking because there isn't a 1980 KZ400 model listed in the parts diagrams. 440s were sold in the USA from 1980-on instead.
All-Balls-Racing has a fork conversion chart, so you can check your model there, whatever it is.
