Are my fork top nuts nuts?
01 Jan 2019 09:50
Hey Yall and a Happy New Year!
On my second ride on the Z1000 83 I suddenly saw that the top fork nuts are very different, I´m guessing the left
one misses a gasket but are they also communicating the air?

The fork caps are different because there's probably an air equalizer assy on the fork tubes, so the left fork has an air valve but the right one doesn't. Try checking the diagrams at Partzilla.

Thanks Martin from Martin!
That´s about what I thought too, this is not original for the Z1000J´s?
So there should be some gasket on the left valve one, and Partzilla is good for the Z1000s?

I think that chrome air valve cover is for the 81-82 1000-J1/J2 models. The 83 J3 appears to have a standard black plastic schrader valve cap & it isn't listed as a separate part. instead the cap is just part of the air valve assy. nothing special about it.

yeah I saw an earlier version with a hole in the middle that covers the hole forkleg top but I think you might be right about 83 Js
being schrader´s!
