ZN 1100 LTD Front fork questions was created by jljim
Just bought an '85 ZN 1100 LTD with a few issues. The forks look like '82 or '83 parts with boots and a center mounted ignition key. The gauges look like my '81 650. The speedo works but the engine has no place for the mechanical tach cable. The turn signal indicators and neutral light are the only indicators that work. I have acquired all the missing front brake parts to make it a dual disc again. The single rotor that came on the bike was only 10" dia, so it was only catching about half the pad..... If I want to get the instrument cluster back to original stuff, can I swap out the upper fork mount and keep the early forks ? The fork diameters match, or will I need a complete triple tree ?

The ZN1100 has an electronic tachometer & gets it's signal from the ignition system, usually the black wire to one of the ignition coils.

Looking at all the EBay pics for instrument clusters. A few years earlier had electronic drive for both the speedo and tach, the '84-'85 ZN's had mechanical speedo and electric tach. Just curious about what it would take to get it back to original stuff. I have a nasty gas tank to deal with before I go any farther with the rest of the bike. I put a few careful miles on it already and it runs and rides very nice.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationFrom the cross-reference at Partzilla the ZN1100 & ZN700 have the same meter assys. I didn't compare everything, but the stuff I did check was the same.

The pilot covers are usually faded & kind of crackly. here's a nos part.

I have a few of the meter assembly's tagged on EBay along with the lamp panels and a key switch. The issue is the right style of meters won't mount on the '83ish upper fork bracket. I found an upper fork bracket and a complete triple tree, just not sure how far I want to go fix that. Knee deep in brakes right now. The rear caliper needs a piston and seal kit. The front caliper that was on the bike is pretty well seized in the bore, maybe from pushing on half the pad because of the smaller dia rotor. I have a pair of earlier style calipers that are clean and ready for piston and seal kits. The bike has plenty of go, I need to work on the stop ! Thanks for the research and cross reference info, Partzilla is a good source for oem numbers.
