Laced Wheels for KZ750 LTD was created by dpivas7
I've been searching a lot for laced wheels that would be compatible with a 1982 KZ750 LTD. I've read that older KZ1000s should be compatible, is that true? What about other KZs that have dual disc front and single disc rear wheels?
I've only been able to find a front wheel from a '77 KZ1000 that needs to be relaced anyway.
I've reached out to Buchanan Spoke and Rim for a quote, but have not heard back in a few days. Any other ideas for where to get laced wheels??? I was thinking of maybe looking for more modern wheels as well from a Kawasaki dirtbike simply because they are so available, but I don't know about compatibility.

Probably the closest match would be the wheels from a KZ1000-M1 or M2 CSR. 48-spoke w aluminum rims. 19 Fr, 16 Rr & triple disks.
The 81-82 KZ650-CSRs have the same Fr wheel. The brake rotors are unique to the 1000-CSR & have 4 bolts.
I don't know if the 1000-CSR wheels are a direct swap, so you'll have to compare stuff. my disclaimer. hee. The 750H Ltd has the same triple tree as the 650-CSR which has the same Fr hub as the 1000-CSR, and both csrs share some Fr hub components w/ the Ltd. So I'm thinking the 1000-CSR disks probably line up correctly with the 750H calipers. I don't know much about the 1000-CSR Rr wheel, except that it has a beefy axle.

The front shouldn't be a problem, the rear, since you have a disc you could could possibly use a rear hub and rim from the KZ750 twin because they had disc rear brake. Not at all sure about spacing but there is a chance it bolts on

Just to elaborate, i haven't checked but I'd be sure that the kz750 twin has an 18" rear wheel so you'd be getting into respoking if you wanted a 16 but the hub and brake assembly would be fine. You'd also need a 16" rim. If you had to re-space the wheel then that's the price you pay for wanting a custom setup.
I've been contemplating changing over to a spoke setup for my LTD for 2 reasons, I like pain and I like to be different. It's not cheap to switch to spokes. That's another consideration.

The 750B Twins are 40-spoke with steel rims & I think they're the same as the 1000A.
The 750B Fr wheel might be the same as the 900A & 650B, but those 2 models have a Rr drum brake.
There's an 82 750M CSR w 40-spoke steel rims, but it also has a Rr drum brake. Strangely, it has the same Fr hub assy as the KZ305.

I cannot, for the life of me, find a rear single disc hub or wheel. I have found some NOS and used front hubs that will work. The only rear hubs I can find are for drum brakes.
The reason I wanted to go to spoked wheels was because of the looks and weight savings, but after a quick google search, spokes are heavier than cast wheels?? I never would have guessed!

There are a couple of KZ1000 CSR rear wheels on eebbaayy.
Wire spoked wheels have the extra weight of the tubes & rim bands. tubes are kind of heavy, especially the thick heavy duty ones.
I was going to refurbish my stock spoked wheels, but it was too expensive. Spoke sets at the time were over $100 per wheel & that didn't include getting them laced. So I got a pair of cast alloy wheels from a 550 Ltd. total cost after refurbishing was well under the cost of 1 spoke set.

Three was one on ebay a short while ago, like within 2 weeks located in Massachusetts i believe. I'll have a look. It was from a 750 twin tho.
Saw where one guy fitted an 18" rear to his 1000 LTD. It was a mag but it looked really good but it would change your rake and I'd be interested in seeing the effect on that. It would quicken the steering on a bike that could stand a little more stability. I believe it was just the hub he was selling.
