Tires for Z1A was created by ZedLeppelin
Hi all. I'm looking for advice on new tires for my '74 Z1900. The Metzelers that are on it now are in good shape, but they're over 15 years old. My local shop recommended the IRC GS-11, the Avon Road Rider, and the Dunlop 404. The IRC conforms more to the classic look of the bike, but I want to be sure it also handles well. It is also the most expensive of the three. Between the more modern Avon and Dunlop, I'm leaning Avon but the Dunlops are significantly cheaper. Anyone have any experience with these? What are your tire preferences?

Roadriders are excellent. A superior tire in every way compared to those Dunlops. Shinko's are better than the Dunlop's too, but not as good as the Avons. The Avons last longer which offsets the higher price.

I have been using Pirelli Sport Demons for the past 9 years (13,000 miles ). The first set lasted 7,000 miles. I REALLY like them a lot and will continue using them as long as Pirelli sells them.

I understand that Avon tires are very good too, but I've never used them. I have used 4 different types of Dunlop tires on my bikes over the years and they all sucked - I wouldn't recommend Dunlops to my worst enemy. Ed
