Ed, are the 77-80 650 airboxes pretty much the same? I've assumed so since the airbox ducts are the same. Thanks.

The parts manual I have shows the 1977 + 1978 KZ650 B & C models suing the same part number, but I'm not sure about the later airboxes. For example, I believe the 1979 KZ650 bikes had extra air valve stuff for emissions control, and I think those airboxes had an extra hole in them where tubing from the emission system attached. The box itself probably would fit, but there could be other differences. Ed

The 1979 kz650 airbox definitely has a hole for the air valve tube. It's maybe almost 1" diameter and in the center between the carb inlets. But otherwise I would guess they are the same or similar enough to use it you plugged the hole.
