Brakes Dragging was created by Kevin STP
Hey All, I have an 83 Spectre 750 and when it has been sitting, even overnight, the brakes drag . After riding for a few minutes they release. I have had to park it the past couple of yrs. due to health issues and am riding again. This has been something I can't figure out. I have changed Brake pads, cleaned caliper slideing parts and flushed the fluid. I need some help.

How long has it been since the calipers have been disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled with new seals?
Crud can build up around the pistons, causing them to stick. Petrified seals can do the same.

It’s been a couple yrs. of no riding but back then I disassembled and cleaned all brake calipers and Master cyl. Seals seemed flexible and pistons were clean- not scored or pitted. I put in fresh fluid and bled the system. May be best to rebuild everything? Maybe upgrade to better brake system ?

No need for extreme measures. It could also be that the tiny relief port in the master has gotten clogged.
Also, if the flexible lines are really old, one may have collapsed internally or may have serious barnacle build up,

The old rubber lines fill up with scale inside which is one reason they should be changed if still running the originals.
