Gauge question
10 Dec 2017 15:27
Would 82 kz750 gauges work on an 82 kz1100 spectre? The reason I ask is the spectre is missing it's gauges and there's a set of 750 gauges cheap.

I don't think any of them are a bolt-in solution. There were several kz750 models, an all but the GPz had cable-driven tachometers. The GPz meters are quit different from the 1100 Spectre. I am sure any of them could be adapted, but they will require some fabrication.

Other than possible differences in the tach there are likely differences in regards to the various warning lights and possibly speedo differences as related to the self cancel turn signals. The devil's in the details.

Figuring out what other meters will work can be a chore. I do know that the 1000K Ltd meters are similar to yours.
The 82 Spectre has an electronic speedometer with speedo drive case (instead of a speedo drive gearbox on the 83 Spectre).
There is a speedometer for your bike listed on eebbaayy. reasonably priced & decent condition but the meter case has road rash.
I didn't look for other meter components.
First thing to do is look at the diagram drawings at Partzilla. often times you can quickly eliminate some meters.
For example the 82 Spectre 1100 meters are completely different from the 83 Spectre 1100. even the meter brackets are different.
If something looks similar, then search the part number on eebbaayy. Then compare. ... pics of nos parts are handy.
If the part number search doesn't yield any results, then search by model. e.g., KZ750 Ltd speedometer.
Something else to be aware of is that the meter diameter can vary.
The 750E & 1000P police meters are smaller in diameter than the meters on my 81 650-CSR.

thanks for the replies, I'll just stick to exact year and model parts. I saw a set cheap and had to ask, it was bought as a parts bike but you know how that goes.
