Fender Application ? was created by kzdcw
Is this fender only found on a KZ1000 MK2 ? Reason I ask, is that I', converting from a 19" front wheel on my 77' KZ1000A to an 18" and want a fender that was designed for an 18" . A vender is selling this fender but says it is for a KZ1000 A3 and A4 , MK2 and for a 19" wheel ? I thought this fender was on the MK2 only which I believe only has an 18" front ?

The KZ1000 MK2 came with a 19" front wheel. See link below. Ed

The Z1R is about the only KZ1000 with an 18" front wheel. The fender is painted & has fender stays. probably hard to find.

The police bikes have an 18" front wheel, but the fenders are big & fat, kinda like what you'd find on a big harley.

Various ZX models from the mid 80s had an 18" Fr wheel & some of the Fr fenders are similar in shape to the one in your pic. but who knows if any of them would bolt on.

You have to be careful, The 79-80 KZ1000 E1, E2 drive shaft model has this same fender, BUT it is wider on the shaft. All parts are wider on the shaft drive. Frame, center stand, trip tree, 40mm fork tubes. I found this out when I stripped one to sell on ebay!

KZ400's have 18" front wheel, I just parted one of those out. Are you painting your motorcycle? Get a fender to cut and weld up, you can by pass the brace's, weld the bracket after grinding off the rivets. then just paint it to match your color parts.

I am building an 18", front over the winter, now that I see this how it will look. 15 yrs ago I built a stock 19". It is too tall, paired with the rear HOG wheel

I stand to be corrected. It's the Z1 R's that have the 18" front, not the MK 2's . Now I know and Thank You for the facts before I purchased it.

Since you have re-directed my attention to the KZ400 front fender, would you happen to know the hole spacing where the fender bolts up to the fork legs ? Also, the inner/outer width of the fender ? If this KZ400 fender will bolt up, I like the looks of it without the lower brace. I was planning on painting or powder coating the fender anyway. Anymore info. would be greatly appreciated !

Well, sort of. Only the 1978 KZ1000-D1 (Z1R) had the 18” front wheel. The 1980 KZ1000-D3 (Z1R) switched back to a 19” front wheel. Ed

Here is the 78 KZ400 fender bolted on to the KZ900/1000 forks. This is a 19" wheel with a smaller 90/90 tire.
Fender bolts right on, same bolt hole pattern, 8mm bolts. I just cut off the cable holder and the 2 bottom tabs that held the bracket on.
I think a cut out of about 2-3 inches on the down, back side and re-weld it might look good. No one wanted those 2 chrome fenders on ebay in August?? It can be for sale if your interested?
