83 KZ750 K Chain Conversion Question
07 Sep 2017 08:13
Hi All,
I'd like to do a chain conversion on my 83 kz750 twin. It has a belt now. I've been on eBay and see several chain conversion kits, but none of em have my specific year/model. Does anyone know which one will work on my bike?
Thanks!

The subject comes up from time to time, but I've never seen a good answer, so you may need to figure it out for yourself.
From the diagrams at partzilla the 750K has the same output shaft as the ZX750-A, so whatever sprocket fits that model should fit onto your output shaft. From the JT Sprockets catalog the ZX750A Fr sprocket is kind of offset, instead of being flat like most KZ sprockets. Other sprockets might fit your output shaft. not sure. If so, you may need to use spacers to align the chain. The ZX750A sprocket is for a 630 chain. JT Sprockets has the dimensions which should help figuring out what fits.
As for the rear sprocket & chain, you'll need to compare the sprockets & sprocket carriers. a few models to check. 650B. 650-CSR. 750-CSR. eebbaayy photos are handy. There could be either a 530 or 630 chain/sprocket combo you could use. A 530 is probably preferable. The 750-CSR had a 530 x 106 drive chain.

Thanks! I'm having trouble finding a front sprocket that is 530. The zx750 is 630 and my kz650 rear wheel is set up for 530. I can't find any conversions for the front sprocket to 530...or my rear sprocket to 630.....
Time to go custom front sprocket maybe?

I would poke around the JT Sprockets catalog & compare the sprockets from various KZ models. 1000P. 1000J. 750B. 750E. 550A. 440A. etc etc etc. For example there's a 530 sprocket listed for the 750B that appears to have the same output shaft pattern as the ZX750A. same measurements & both are Z-13 which I guess is a pattern designation???
Or you could contact JT Sprockets to see if any of the 530s have the same output shaft pattern as the ZX750A
Another approach is place an ad for a junk sprocket from a bike that seems to be a good match. Get something cheap just to see what fits. Or go ahead & get a good one that seems to be a good match. It may be that other sprockets fit & all of this rigamarole is for nothing.
