KZ front fork Q
29 Aug 2017 23:05
Aloha guys. I just have one simple question.
Is the front fork on our KZ chrome plated (or any kind of plating) or just polished metal?
My KZ front fork are not too bad, but my ZX7 have badly pitted front fork, but do not see any chrome peeling or flaking. I've seen car bumper that was chrome and usually have chrome flaking off if it's badly rusted.
Just asking because if it's polished metal, I can do it locally, but if it's plating, I need to send it off to mainland.

The forks are chromed but its a hard chrome, not a decorative chrome like on your car bumpers. Thats why one pits and the other flakes.

Thanks. Solved age old question for me.
Is there any way to revive the badly pitted fork? Perhaps sand and polish or need to re-chrome the tube?

You have to sand down the pits and re-chrome the legs but it is expensive.
Look at www.pittedforks.co.uk/index.php
It is cheaper to buy new USD fork legs or a good used USD fork.
I saw a video on youtube that someone fill the pits with super glue and smoothing them with a razor blade.

I wouldnt bother with the glue thing. It wont last and youll just bugger up another set of seals. Best to bite the bullet and do it properly.
Second hand forks are probably the cheaper option . Philpotts will cost you more but the quality of the new chrome is meant to be a lot better than the original Japanese stuff and will outlast a 2nd hand set of originals.

You can clean - sand & buff with a fine scotch wheel, then buff to make smooth as to not ruin new seals.
Then go with the black alligator rubber boots. Give it old school / police look
