Speedo Issue and photos - I made a FAIRING choice

So I made a choice on a fairing for my 77 KZ 750. Stripped it, primed it, and after MUCH struggling, managed to get it on my bike. There are a few pics of it below.

So, after taking my bike for a spin i noticed I the speedo cable had come loose from the Speedo. I pulled over in downtown Manhattan and screwed it back in. Now it doesnt work. What might have gone wrong?

Nice fairing choice.
I bet that the speedometer cable is not fully seated in the driven gear.

Thanks. I just go in from completing a bit of work on the bike. Aside from the crooked stone guard being righted, a bolt inside the headlamp assembly fell of inside of the headlamp housing and made weird sounds bouncing around as I rode last night. Had to disassemble the whole thing and put it back together properly.

While doing all that, I put the speedo cable back in. Im not riding today as its rained all day in NYC, but I am hopeful it works tomorrow. If not, then im going to leave it.
