Problem with New Chain??

Hello All,

I'm having a strange issue with a new chain and I'm wondering if anybody has seen this before. I went up 2 teeth on my rear sprocket and the chain wasn't long enough, so I ordered a longer one. I just installed everything and I can watch the chain swing side to side about a 1/4" or more. The chain is actually hitting the chainguard in one spot because of the excess side to side movement. My first thought was that the new rear sprocket must be bent, but the sprockets seem straight (although I haven't measured runout yet). Could an issue with the chain cause something like this? I've never heard of it, but it seems like I got a bad chain?? Would riding with the new chain "loosen it up" and maybe correct the issue?

Thanks

I would be returning that chain. That's all kinds of wrong. Running it like that will destroy your sprockets.

I'm running a 530 conversion on my 1000. It's an off brand which I've had good luck with in the past. I just ordered a good EK chain so I'll try it when it gets here. I've just never seen a chain cause this type of problem....I hope that's it.

The problem was with the brand new chain....what a piece of junk! It's like there's a big bend in it...never seen anything like it.

The new EK chain is perfect....no problems. I'm just glad that was it and not an output shaft bearing or bent sprockets or something weird like that. Just a cheap-@ss chain!

Good thing you caught that. I don't think I would've checked for that with a new chain... unless it was making funky noises.

Place called Wincycles from eBay. I'll let you know if he is willing to issue a refund.

I just gave the wheel a quick spin while it was up on the stand and I could hear the chain hitting the chainguard. It was swinging side to side badly.
