Chain and Sprockets was created by Zachgrove1
Hello All,
It's about time for a chain and sprocket replacement (sprockets look worn, and chain is stretched) - I'm riding an 81 KZ1000 K-1 sporting a 96 link 630 drive chain, with a 15T front sprocket and a 39T rear sprocket, thus running a stock ratio of 2.60.
I ride mainly on country roads in Oklahoma, and have been pretty satisfied with the 2.60 ratio (giving me top end on the long strait aways, and enough zip through the twistys), however wanted to ask if anyone else found an awesome ratio that I could try out that would give me slightly more in the corners while still keeping the top end relatively consistent?
Also, I read a few forum threads that discussed converting the 630 chain down to a 520 or 530 chain. Would dropping the chain size involve changing anything more than the chain and both sprockets? Is it worth dropping down in size or should I stick with the 630 chain?
Thank you!

I'd do 530. Lighter and cheaper and more durable.
You gotta bump the front sprocket up to 18T, and if you want 2.60 then the rear should be 47. 116 links for a 530 chain is closest to the stock 96 630.
The Z1 Enterprise guys are well versed on what sprockets and chain you will need.

Personally I like my 630 16/35 setup but I have a 18' rear wheel.

That would account for the extra teeth on the rear sprocket.
