U bolt size for crash bars was created by 76KZ900
Got a good deal on a set of triangle crash bars but they didn't come with u bolts. Anyone know what size these things would be? Something Home dept/Lowes would carry? As always thanks

The more recent basket case bike that I bought had a pair of case savers but did not have the u-bolts. But a few years ago I bought a pair of NOS Kawasaki case savers for my other KZ400 so I had an idea what was needed by looking at the other bike. I got a pair of ubolts from Tractor Supply, which seems to have a better hardware selection - at least for the stuff that I'm usually looking for, than my local Home Depot or Lowes, but the others or an Ace Hardware should have something that will work. I don't remember the exact size that I used take some measurements and you should find something that will work. If I remember correctly, I could not find an exact fit but the next size up worked okay. For example I think I was looking for 1-1/4" but all they had was 1" and 1-1/2". Don't quote me on those numbers. Just measure the diameter of the tubes and find a u-bolt slightly larger.

Those U-bolts are special, being they are sized specifically for the tube diameter. The flattened part allows them to fit in the tight space between the engine and frame.
They will break easily if over-tightened, and replacements are not readily available.
Been there...

Another way would be to measure the holes if your case savers. U bolts usually stretch to fit. Im usually concerned with whats happening to the frame tubes. Buying genuine metric cotter pins I always thought was fun. Most guys here in the states will look at you like you have 3 eyes.
