What are the critical differences between the KZ 550 and the GPz in 1982? The stance of the bike looks significantly different. Was that due to the frame, wheels, or something else. I ask only because there is a possibility of getting into a project with the KZ and I was wondering if for all practical purposes that could be changed to the GPz look.

The 82 model year has unitrack monoshock, a longer wheelbase, 35mm forks and -dare I say it, 5 spoke wheels.

The twin shock kz gpz models are all pretty similar.

1980 Gpz550 D1, 1981 GPz550 D1. 1982 GPz750R1. 1983 z1000R R2. all four aces

Thanks. So as I understand it the frames are essentially the same.

The Kz550A (standard) frame is quite different from the 82-83 Kz550H gpz. Obviously the rear suspension is different. All of the body work is different. The tank is different. The footpeg mounts are different. The wheel base is different. The forks are different. The battery box area is different. The fork clamps are different. All of those differences require differences in the frame. I'm not sure there is any part of the frame that is the same except maybe the backbone and engine cradle.

Now, the Kz550A (standard) frame, as Tyrell said, is almost exactly the same as the 81 Kz550D1 gpz, but the 82 is different.
