KZ200 clutch cable replacement issues
18 Sep 2016 11:05
Recently just broke my clutch cable, the oem part isn`t made anymore and I`ve found the Kawasaki part numbers not very helpful without a cross reference.
From what I`ve read the KZ200 shared almost all parts with the KZ400 of the same year, but the part numbers are still seperated by model and year. Even though they should be the same part I can`t find a cross reference or any guide that can confirm it is identical, I`ve checked the parts catalogue on kawasaki.com and the pictures look similar but there is no measurement or anything. I`d rather not waste the rest of the season buying and returning cables, if anyone can confirm or has a cross reference that would be great.
I`ve also found a NOS cable which sells for cheaper for a klt200 which looks identical to the kz`s cable, but yet again there`s no reference, or even a measurement to go by.
1978 kz200-A1 clutch cable - 54011-090
1978 kz400-A2 clutch cable - 54011-069
1978 klt200 clutch cable - 54011-4003

I'd check with Z1E or Partzilla

2000 ZRX1100 not ridden enough

If it's like most Kz's, you can just custom make a cable from some other cable, if you have no luck finding one.
But you will need to know how to solder without overheating the metal.

Or Motion Pro will make one to order based on your measurements. It costs more, and takes more time, but they can make it any length.

Does your bike still have the stock handlebars?
The cross-reference at Partzilla for the 1978 KZ200-A1 shows that the 78 & 79 KZ200 had the sam clutch cable.
As for an alternate cable, I'd guess the KZ250 or 305 would be a close match. just a guess. or maybe a dirt bike?
What you can do is remove yours & measure it, then compare your cable & its dimensions to various cables at Z1Enterprises.com. You'd have to get one that has the same ends & about the same amount of slack.

If necessary there are places that make custom cables. Here's one:

Went with the 400-a2 cable, as it was recommended a few years earlier on another thread. I don't know what shit they were smoking but it's not the same cable at all, waste of time.
thanks for the recomendations. guess i'm out of luck and have to buy a custom cable

Sorry for the long wait, but the klt200 cable was a perfect match. I lucked out this time as there happened to be one for sale on ebay, but now that I have an extra set of hardware I can make the cables myself.
Thanks for all the recommendations, alot of great companies out there and guys here to recommend them!
