Are grommets for shocks NLA? was created by aphex
As per usual, I apologize if this is a question already answered. I'm not seeing anything on my digs through old posts.

I have a 1980 KZ1000 G1 Classic with aftermarket shocks and I want to put the stock ones back on as they are in great shape and better suited for my weight/height. However, they do not have the rubber bushings (or "grommets") for the top eyelet.

After asking around I'm told that these are no longer available and no one makes an aftermarket replacement. This can't be right, can it? Say it ain't so, fellas....

The local yard is telling me I'll have to replace the shocks altogether or fab up something from some polymer or something. Don't care much for that idea, wanna buy the right stuff for my baby. Is there a source for these bushings anywhere?

Correct...those are NLA. You'll have to fabricate replacements or purchase used.

If you measure the diameter of the shock mount studs and the inside diameter of the shock absorber eyes you may be able to find aftermarket bushings that fit. It may take a bit of searching on the internet and on eBay, but there are places that sell motorcycle shock bushings. The hard part may be finding bushings in the size you need. If the diameters are correct but the width is too wide you probably can cut the bushings down a bit so they are the correct width. Here's one example of aftermarket bushings:

Progressive suspension might have a bushing kit. I don't think they list them on their site, so you may have to contact them. I would take some measurements beforehand & provide them with that info. If you can't find the rubber dampers in the correct ID, you might be able to get bronze bushings to make up the difference. Also, there may be some shock bushings from a Honda or other UJM that will work.

Thank you all for the assistance! I did the ol' Ebay hunting thing and bought some NOS parts to save time. A bit pricey but I'm satisfied with that for now. The progressive idea is interesting, I'll check into that in the future.

Thanks again guys!
