Not sure of Master Cylinder Part P/N
24 Jun 2016 04:56
It seems that the parts diagrams at Kawasaki.com are down. Partzilla has the parts list, but no picture.
The rubber piece inside the front master cylinder has a slight tear. I'm not sure what it's called to order the right part. Is it the diaphragm?
I thought I was just having trouble bleeding the fronts, but I noticed a little bit of fluid on the outside. If I wipe it all down, and then squeeze the brake, I can't see fluid come out, but if I do squeeze a few times, and check it later, theres a small amount of wetness where the throttle cable touches the M/C housing, right at the banjo.
I used new crush washers and made sure the banjo is tight. So I'm not sure where the fluid is coming from. Could the torn rubber boot be the culprit? I also replaced the two screws for the lid.

Check the picture on the 1980 model. It's the same as your bike.
Before ordering any master cylinder parts I'd remove the piston and inspect the bore for pitting.

Ok, I found a Google image that tells me the part is the diaphragm, P/N 43028
Partzilla lists 43028-0001, -0002 and about 9 others. Prices all vary as well. How do I determine which "suffix" I need?
I'm also still wondering if the tear could cause the fluid leak. I never really looked at that part as a gasket, so I'm leaning towards no.

If you mean the mc cap/cover diaphragm, click diaphragm to the right of 43028 to get to the full part number at Partzilla.
43028-1008 DIAPHRAGM is listed as Part Obsolete.

Ok, I see that now. Thanks.
What symptom would I notice if there was a small hole in the diaphragm?

I found my leak. I bought a ten pack of crush washers that are slightly smaller in diameter. Apparently this is only an issue between the brake line and the master cylinder. In the bottom, the washer wasn't sticking out, but I couldn't see it until I pulled the MC off.
So i anealed two of two old ones and reconnected. So far, no leaks. I stood there for 15 minutes working bubbles out of the breather hole.
