Fuel cap leak was created by strum
I have noticed when I fill my tank ill get some fuel seep at the key area of my cap.
Its the hinged style cap and i did replace the gasket that seals it to the tank.
Is this a vent problem or do i just need to buy a new cap from Z1?
After a run the fuel level down a little it stops .

I believe it is the only vent through the cap. Fill it less next time B)

Don't overfill it. I ruined my new paint job that way.

If you fill it to close to the top some fuel may leak out if the engine heat causes the fuel to expand. Ed

In colder climates even the heat build up a day can cause the fuel to expand and gush out if you overfill. :)

That cap will leak every time. Same cap used on my 1979 KZ1000 and even at 3/4 full would frequently leak. Bad design to put it in mild terms.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

In the mornings recently it has been about 20° going to 50° in the afternoon and a small puddle of gas forms around the key area every day. Might be the black tank sitting in the sun, but I think the gas vapor going through the key area can cause that as well.

- good luck

Have you tried opening it up and cleaning it? It's not supposed to leak unless the tank in overfull.

I just took it apart. It has more parts in there than i thought lol.. took me a min to get it back together .
I didnt know if I got any where or not but I did find one of the flat washer/gaskets was not in a proper notch.
I could see and indention on the gasket where from the notch and the gasket had a little square cut out that fit the notch.
I put it where i fell like it should be. either someone had been there before of it was assembled wrong factory.
ill have to run it a little bit to know if its fixed but i dont have much confidence in it .
