Engine swap, kz900 frame kz750 engine
21 Jan 2016 10:28
I've got a wrecked 1980 750ltd with a good engine. I have the chance to pick up a 1979 kz900 frame with suspension front and rear and lots of other goodies for almost nothing.
I like the look of the 900 frame so I was wondering if a 750 engine work with the 900 frame?

Ahh, I'm going off what the seller said. He has a bunch of kz900 emblems which is probably where that came from.

If the seller has a clear title and will part with it for crazy cheap, and you are up for a big project, then ok.
The 750 will not be a bolt in deal. I am pretty sure that the motor mounts are in different places. Chain alignment may be a problem and many of the 750 parts may need significant modification to fit the 1000 frame.
I have no doubt it can be done, but it won't be an afternoon project.

Looks like a 76 kz900 frame judging by the footrests. The forks are wrong, the tailpiece fender and light are from something else (kind of looks like J model or 750 parts)
If it has a title and he wants $50-$100 for it, it wouldn't be a hard sell to someone needing a frame. But you aren't going to be making money, just holding it until someone needs it basically

Wow... it's just not there.
Resell all that stuff and use the little money you'll get so you can buy something that's really deserving of a restoration or at least, worthy of getting back on the road as is!
This sounds more like an act of desperation to get back on a motorcycle....

There are plenty of KZ750 Ltds around for very little money, either buy another bike with perhaps an iffy motor or a non runner for a few hundred $ and fit your own motor or just ride the other one if you get if running. To turn that frame and your motor into anything worthwhile you'll spend thousands more than just buying another bike and many hours of your time. I also don't see a KZ900/1000 with a KZ750 motor in being worth anything when you are done. Much better to find a frame or bike that would be a straight bolt on for your existing usable parts.

Lol I've got six bikes in my garage right now. I have caught the KZ addiction.
The guy has two tanks I'm going to pick up. I was trying to justify a reason for bringing home more parts...

That's how it works, I have a spare bodyset, engine swinger, forks and electrical parts; but no frame.
And I already have my 1000, the wife's 1000, my goldwing, and my H2. I would buy it, toss a bike together and get rid of a bunch of spares. But, I know what all I have

Re: Re:Engine swap, kz900 frame kz750 engine
21 Jan 2016 23:40The manufacture label 'VIN' on the neck will tell you the model and size of the original bike/engine combo. 900's and 1000 engines are commonly swapped from bike to bike. '76 was the last year the 900 engines were produced.
