Non-alignment after dropping bike

Hey guys,

I have an '82 KZ 440 that I recently dropped. Afterwards, when the handlebars are straight, the front wheel is not. I loosened up the triple clamp (top & bottom) and got them to be aligned; however, I believe that I may have damaged the handlebar mounts when it was dropped.

I have included a picture and as you can see the right handlebar mount is tilted up with respect to the left handlebar mount.

So my question is -- Is the whole upper triple clamp bent & should that be replaced? Cheers

I'd say no. The handlebar mounts have rubber insulators that allow for a bit of movement. I'd bet that the handlebars are slightly bent, or the clamp itself may be bent. If it is the handlebar, you may be able to straighten it without removing it. A willing assistant may be necessary.

Can't tell from here. They're pretty tough. You can take it off and put it on a flat surface to check.

Yeah, after stepping back from the bike it looks like it could be bent handlebars. I'll take them off and check

My bars on my KZ650B1 were bent when I bought it due to someone taking a minor off, I just bent them back in to shape on the bike. I think if you look closely and compare it to the other side you'll see where it's bent.

Put them on a flat surface, then bend them back into shape.

Did you drop the bike or crash it? A drop is a harmless event standing still or at very low speed. A crash is a crash & more damage.

I was going 15-20 mph. Bent the shift lever pretty good and also the headlight.
