Tank sealer products?

Hi all. So my acid and prep went well, but it turns out the old tank has a couple pinhole leaks now. What have you used to seal and what works? R

I sealed my tank with Kreem 30 years ago and it has held up well. I used the whole bottle and it made a thick inside coating.

If you plan on repainting have the holes welded.

For a tank that's rusted through, I'd use a premium tank sealant such as KBS or something from Eastwood or West Marine.
In a topic which I can't find, jeff.saunders said he used west system epoxy to repair a tank that was in really bad shape to give it some structural integrity. Below is a different reply about the stuff.

This mix creates a hard shell inside the tank that's impervious to gasoline. Use a 5:1 mix.

West Marine --- West System epoxy

I've used Caswell's Epoxy tank sealer on a couple tanks and it's good stuff. Really thick and reinforces the metal for those tanks with holes and/or thin metal. If there are holes there may be others close behind.

Por-15 tank sealer is thinner and easier to use. If flows better so you can be assured the entire tank is coated on the inside easier than with Caswell's, which is thick as honey. If using Caswell's I recommend thinning it per the directions on the package.

Thinking outside the box a bit, you could also whack that spot with a ball-peen hammer, and then Bondo in the dent you've created for an out-side-the-tank solution. Assuming of course that there's only one hole and that it's substantial.

Bondo wouldn't hold up to gas. If you need to do something, drill the pinhole out slightly (to clean the hole) flux and braze or solder the pinhole, then seal if you must

I tried using RedKote tank liner on a bike once. I followed the instructions to the letter and it still leaked. Can't recommend taht product.

I wouldn't depend completely on any kit. Maybe the tank needed more prep than specified in the instructions. ???
Preparation is key. I would clean the tank & treat the rust before using anything from a kit. The kit preparations & pre-treatments would be redundant steps.

I sealed a fuel tank with Kreem & it worked perfectly. Before using the kit, I did some extra work to make darn sure there was no rust or dried up fuel in there. It's been a while, but I think I used ss nuts & MEK --- the nuts for the rust & the solvent to dissolve any petroleum residue. I wanted the metal as clean & bare as possible before using the kit. Then I followed the Kreem instructions exactly.

Yep will do another flah with denatured alcohol for the gas and then power was and full dry with a heat gun, then coat. Will use KBS gold standard coating. R
