How to determine model of '92 KZ1000P?
12 Oct 2015 07:44
I'm rebuilding the forks on my 92 KZP and in table 4 on page 307 of Clymer service manual it list three different models for the KZ1000. There is a KZ1000-J, a KZ1000-K and a KZ1000-M and I've seen this else where in the manual. How do I determine which model I have?
I know the 1992 is a P11 but these models are different. Which is mine? What do the sub-numbers (J,K & M) pertain to?

You have the P model = Police Model (made from 1982 - 2005)
J model = standard (made from 1981-1983)
K model = LTD model (made from 1982 - 1983)
M model = CSR model (made from 1982 - 1983)

None of those is your model. Yours is a P model. The problem is that you are trying to use a Clymer manual. I HIGHLY recommend you buy a real Kawasaki Service Manual and the correct Police bike supplement rather than trying to use a dubious aftermarket manual. Ed

Thanks for the correction, I didn't think this made sence.
Does anyone know what the measurement for fork fluid should be measuring from the top of the compressed fork tube to the fluid?
I have the rebuild done just need fluid.

I just ordered the Kawasaki Service manual which may take a week to get here. In the mean time, if someone knows what the fluid height should be from the top of the tube I would much appreciate it so I can wrap this bike up.

The manual I have (not the KZP supplement) says 110 -/+ 2mm with the springs removed and the fork tube fully compressed. If you ever do find the any authoritative KZP specific spec. please let us know.

Thanks Jackleberry.
I ended up order the service manual from Kawasaki specific to the 92 KZ1000P.
I'll let you all know if it say's that same thing.
