KZ1000 FORKS (again)

I'm getting ready for a fork conversion on my '79 KZ1000. What I am wondering is what others have done successfully as far as direct bolt on's from other bikes, custom triple clamps etc. I have not purchased any components yet, suggestions there would be helpful. I have lathe and machining available

I popped an upsy dupsy ZX9Rfront end on mine.Forks,wheel,brakes etc. All it took was a stem swap. Still not on the road yet but it looks the bees knees.
Clearance for the Harris exhaust might be a concern but Ive gone too far now to turn back. There should be a link in my signature which will take you too the build thread.Its all on there.

P.S. As I used the ZXR yokes,I also had to build a new clock mount and extend the headlight bracket,though neither of these was a problem.

There's been a bunch of swaps performed here. My suggestions is to browse the Projects and Chassis sections. This topic has been covered several times before.

BTW, if the bike you're wanting to convert is the one in your avatar, that is too nice of an example to mess with IMO. Original examples are getting to be far and few between.

HOW did you swap the stem in? Did you use an original KZ stem or have something turned the same size? Also is it pressed in or welded on? Sorry for all the questions but this will be the first time doing this, so I want to get it right.

Thanks for the comments Doug, The picture in my avatar was the day I bought the bike. The original paint was actually faded pretty bad and the front spoke wheel was bent. I have since repainted it, added an aftermarket swing arm, cast wheels with the back being widened. So the forks are the next logical progression. Here is a more recent pict. I will scan the projects and look for other posts. Thanks again.

I am using the forks from a 2000 YZF600R on my 1980 1000 LTD and my 1978 750 B3. I made a full triple for the 1000 and I will be using the lower triple from the YZF and an upper triple that I made on the 750 twin. The photo is the upper triple for the twin. It will use stock guages and the bar mounts are eccentric and allow for fine tuning the position.
