z500 front end cable routing
14 Sep 2015 14:22
I have recently been working on my bike and have noticed that the cable routing at the front end of the bike for the headlight. handlebar controls and throttle cable looks a bit off. I have looked through the FSM and it doesnt really have any good shots of how the cables should be routes and any pictures that show it arnt that clear. I was wondering if anyone know the OEM way that the cables are meant to be routed.

If you look on the frame just behind the headstock there are a 3 holes that hold a clutch cable clip, quite a rare part that usually goes missing. Throttle cable(s) goes through right fork tube and under tank.

Just an FYI. Some models had various cable guides that are mounted at the upper triple clamp fork bolts.
My 650-CSR didn't come stock with them, but I added one on each side --- on the left for the clutch cable & on the
right to tidy up the handlebar control wires (the throttle cables couldn't be routed thru the guide).
A couple of examples that I installed.
clutch cable clamp guide ... & ... triple tree with guide

I thought the cabling might have gone as how you suggested it. When I get my new cables in I will make sure to route them correctly and while I am waiting might ask Kawasaki to see if they have the guides in stock.

Re: z500 front end cable routing
15 Sep 2015 13:21Why would you ask Kawasaki if they have them in stock, when the link that Martin gave you has over 10 in stock with lifetime warranty?? The part numbers are different and on a z500 the throttle cables go through the guide from what I can gather from the FSM. Another reason to ask Kawasaki is that I live in Australia and it will most likely be quicker and cheaper if Kawasaki has the part in stock. Lewis

The part in Martin csr's link will work. you might have to bend the ring a little bit to conform to the one in your e-bay link, & It's new & 1/2 the price

Priced around $15T & I think one or two had worldwide shipping.
search = kawasaki cable guide or cable clamp. or use KZ750 or KZ900 etc instead of Kawasaki
