KZ900 with front fork air fitting ?

Out at Mid Ohio this weekend I saw a 1976 KZ900 with an air fitting in the headlight bucket. It was for filling the front forks. Is anyone familiar with this and was it a stock option? It said 25lbs Min and 50lbs Max.

That was a fad that went nowhere..... All my modern dirt bikes had schrader valves.
Wait.... didn't I see those on somebody's fork top bolts here....?

If you pump 25-50 PSI into the stock KZ900 forks you will blow the fork seals. Ed

1981 kz750E2 has air. Valves at top of forks. I think the max air pressure. Is 26psi but not completely sure.

I seem to remember that my 750 LTD owners manual called for 5-8 psi or so.

Yeah, I got em. Didn't help. Had a crossover too. More than 10 LBS and it rode like a rock. Too hard to just get 5/8 in them. I thought about having a ballast can but where to put it? I bought progressive springs and the valves are there to remind me of something that didn't work. :pinch:

Could progressive springs go in my 1981kz 750e2 and anyone know how to change the fork seals?

Progressive Suspension has a fitment chart on its website. I bet Sonic and Traxxion Dynamics do too.

The factory service manual has a pretty detailed explanation of the seal change procedure. It is not complicated, but some models have little quirks. An impact wrench will be a big help.

I always wanted them but the price was through the roof. That's when the bikes were new and everyone and his dog were trying to cash in on parts. Lots of scams and performance improvements that got you nowhere. There was a guy trying to sell a $2 bracket for $100+ because it would fit a Z!. Dog vomit.
