wrong forks or wrong calipers was created by Lazyman06
This 79' KZ1000 MKII I bought 4 years ago did not have front calipers on them. According to the PO the front calipers were locked up so they removed them while they worked on it. Now on to my dilemma, went to put the front calipers on for the first time in 4 years and they wouldn't fit. The mounting holes for the calipers were about a 1/4 in too long on both holes and it wouldn't fit between the forks and rotor. Also noticed the front forks have a schrader valve on top and as far as I know the MKII's dont have air release valves factory. So either PO swapped forks or gave me the wrong calipers which is possible because on both b/c he had a bunch of older bikes. If someone with a MKII with stock brakes could measure the mounting holes that would be fantastic. I'll post measurements as soon as I get home.

Mkii forks I believe are the same as the other 1000s (just with the lowers blacked), 36mm diameter and without the air valves. The 81 & up 1000s have 38mm tubes with air added to them.

Kz550 forks are 36mm with air valves. Like was said though, pic time, don't be lazy now

my bikes; 80kz1000(project), 77 gl1000, 74 h2 (project)
Past; 78 kz1000, 83 kz550

Be aware, when rebuilding front brake calipers, that different piston sizes were used between the calipers for the KZ900/KZ1000s('76- '78) and the KZ1000s from '79-'80. The latter group uses larger diameter pistons than the former.

I learned this lesson AFTER ordering rebuild kits and NOT checking piston sizes on calipers purchased from salvage yards - after all, they look identical.

I did check part numbers while I was at work. The calipers fit a shat ton of different bikes while the part number for the forks only show to fit the A3 and the A3A

Forks look correct but the caliper brackets don't .
Just measure my which are 36mm forks and the spacing for the caliper bracket holes are 72mm center.
