Heard of JBS Shocks? was created by Jbosh
Greetings,

I'm doing homework on parts prior to ordering and I am wondering if any of you guys have knowledge about these shocks.

pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=151612066185

As I can't find much for reviews or evaluation, I am skeptical even though they nicely fit my budget :).

I am not interested in Chinese part bashing but instead of some honest feedback as I see a poor decision here as a matter of personal rider safety.

Cheers!

As long as I get to learn something, I'm happy!

A friend of mine does a lot of business in China. He contracts the build of various products for distribution and/or use in the states. He came back from one of his trips a while back with a couple sets of shocks like those. Springs were not installed. I took the shocks and checked the stroke smoothness and damping and there were spots in the travel where their was no damping. Apparently the sealing rings were not sealing through the full stroke. I don't know if they would break in or what, but I suspect no.

There are guys around that purchase those shocks and then tear them down and finesse the various internal parts to get them to perform properly. I suspect if the shocks had consistent damping they would be okay, but this is just a supposition on my part.

I was also looking at these and did a search on't interweb for reviews. As you can imagine the consensus went from fantastic to terrible. One review stood out, saying that the aloy twixt the resevoir and the main body cracked!!
That pretty much put me off. At the end of the day,you get what you pay for and ,safety wise, you dont want to be fucking around on something like this.
Im going for YSS or IKON .Their cheapest ones arent as cool looking but they will be far better quality.

davido,
You don't happen to have the link for that review by chance? I heard something similar but couldn't find the link myself.

Thanks guys! I'm thinking along the same lines but I'm still curious who this JBS company is...

Sorry JBosh, no link,I dont remember where I found it.I might even have made it up! Do your own search and make up your own mind. You know how the interweb is, Like I said, you get what you pay for. Im going for YSS or IKON, both have good reviews. At the top of the range are the piggy back shocks, they cost the most but they both do a basic shock at a reasonable price,Have a look at the websites.

www.ikonsuspension.com/
YSS are getting great reviews as a quality ,well priced, shock, while IKON are a rehash of the classic KONIs from the 70s/80s.
Another one is HAGON,a British company, though I dont like them as they have a pig ugly blue sticker and they rust like fuck
www.hagon-shocks.co.uk/
Another one ,worth looking at,(a bit more expensive) that are getting good reviews are Gazis
www.gazisuspension.com/products.html .

So many shocks,so little time!!
Good luck.

That link for the shocks plus shipping works out to $180 or so. That's way too much to pay for questionable shocks. I bought a used set of Koni's for my KZ1000 on the bay recently. Less than $200 and they look great. Haven't tried them but they're Koni's - I'm not worried.

What the heck are you talking about?? I seriously doubt that you have ever owned Hagon shocks because you are dead wrong about them rusting. THEY ARE MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL and they DO NOT RUST. There, I shouted it! I don't know who told you they rust, but you shouldn't listen to any other advice they may offer you because they don't know squat about what they are talking about.

I have had the Hagon shocks on my bike for more than 12,000 miles (8 years) and they still work like new. They work every bit as well, in fact even better than, the S&W shocks I had before - and those were top of the line. Regarding the "pig ugly blue sticker" it is just that - a STICKER. So you spend 5 seconds and peel it off. Big deal?? No.

Here are my rusty, pig ugly Hagon shocks. Oh my, what a rusty, crappy mess just like the rest of my bike! Disgusting, right? Sheeesh!

The stainless Hagons are an upcharge. You better pay the upcharge for the chrome plated springs too because I've also heard about Hagons rusting. The damping is heavy too, unless you get a custom set that's valved better.

You don't actually need a "custom" set to get the level of valving that best suits you. Assuming you buy the Hagon shocks new from a reputable dealer you get to pick the valving or have an expert help you pick one. They come in everything from soft to xxtra heavy. Notice in the Dave Quinn site below (half way down the page) the wide variety of valving and spring weights offered. He will set the shocks up for the customer after getting input on the bike, driving style, accessories, etc. That's where I bought mine and he set them up perfectly for me - no extra charge. Ed

A friend bought a pair of Hagons from Dave and they were set up like a buckboard. He tried to contact him and send them back but Dave dodged his calls. I think Hagons are okay if you know what you need, but I'm not so sure about blindly allowing someone to set them up.
