Zephyr 1100 shocks on a KZ750-L3?
27 Apr 2015 08:27 - 27 Apr 2015 09:56
Anyone know if Zephyr 1100 shocks with 345 mm between holes would fit on a KZ750L3? I can't remember the 750's shock length.
EDIT: L3, not L4 :silly:

Well a bit of google search and some looking at different shock manufacturer websites gave me the following numbers which I think is correct:
KAWASAKI >Z 750 / E/L >Year 80-87: 340 - 14X20 - 14X20 (length - top - bottom)
KAWASAKI >ZEPHYR 750 >Year 91-99: 350 - 14X20 - 10X20
That would be a fit right? The 4mm smaller depth shouldn't be a problem me thinks.

If no one answers today, let me look at my GPz750 shocks (very similar to the L3 shocks) and the set of 1100 Zephyr shocks I have. I think another issue might be the 'width' of the shocks rather than the distance between mounting holes.

The width of the spring or the mounting parts? Hmm, didn't think about the spring etc.

I just measured my KZ700-A1 springs (Kawasaki's diagram says they are the same). There should be ample room for bigger springs.

The major difference is the length of the spring. On the ZR1100 shock, the spring extends to the bottom of the lower mount...or almost the length of the lower shock shaft, This lower section is then wider than the GPz750 shock, which has a bare lower shaft to the lower mount. This wider area will interfere with the chain guard and possibly rub against the bolts holding the rear sprocket. You can trim the chain guard but the sprocket bolts (if they rub) will be difficult to get around.

I don't know how it looks on the GPZ but look at this:
If I understand correctly it shouldn't be a problem, right?
