Oh no. Cracked frame...
14 Mar 2015 14:41 - 14 Mar 2015 14:42
Ths is how projects snowball out of control...
I have the engine out to replace the starter clutch. I was cleaning the frame to prep for touch-up paint before the engine goes back in when I found this:
sigh
Ok. Is this tough to fix? Should I take it to a bike frame guy or can anybody with a modicum of welding experience fix this?

Just wondering if bike was wrecked?
Don't think engine stress cracked the frame.

It can happen. If the bolt is loose the vibration can cause this.

That's going to be a bit complicated to fix right, butt welding frame tubes isn't cool.

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

Here's a better shot from last night.
And here it is with the paint removed. Looks like the crack was in the paint?
What a relief...

Bad news. You need special welding rods to repair cracks in paint.Theyre difficult to find though I might have some spare ones I can sell you.
