KZ550 LTD Wheels (1982) on KZ 305 CSR (1981) was created by Not a mechanic
The subject line says it. Can I put the "mags" from a 1982 KZ550 LTD on a 1981 KZ 305 CSR? The mags go with the look I am going for on my 305. The front wheel is an inch larger diameter, the rear is the same diameter, but slightly wider. Any thoughts?

The biggest question would be do you have the room for the extra tread to the fender. I would guess yes it would work but you would have to check the axle size as well. I have a normal 1981 kz550 if you need me to check anything. As for the rear tire, if the rim is a bit wider you MAY need to make your own spacers to fit but beyond that the only concern I would have is if the brake rotor mounting bolts would fit. But I have a kz550 at your disposal for measurements just let me know.
Happy hunting
Andrew

Keep it rubber side down everyone :)

The rear hub stuff is probably smaller & different on the 305, so chain & brake alignment might be an issue.

I realize you may be asking about the 550 wheels because you also have a 550, but you may be better off looking for a more similar model as a parts bike. I think the 305 was based on the Kz250 twin, so you might loof into that, but there was also a 250 single (which was based on the 200 single), and it had aluminum wheels.

If you are outside the U.S., you might find one of these:

There was also the 440 Ltd twin, (based on the 400 twin) which had aluminum wheels, and they are dirt cheap nowadays. You might find a set of 440 Ltd wheels on cragslist for less than $100, if you are in the U.S.. They come in chain drive and belt drive versions. I wonder if it's just a matter of bolting on a new sprocket to make it chain drive?

Heck, you can get this whole bike for $300

Way to go would be fit a complete front end complete with yokes and calipers.
The 550's have an unconventional leading axle front so even a single disc kz front mag won't align with the caliper. There's ways round this too ...

Limiting factor will be the rear swing arm width and your chain offset. Again theres ways around this too but whilst it is cool idea this won't be a bolt together job.
